Who Is Your Ideal Client?

It is much better to be attracting 3 of your ideal clients than 20 of the wrong. Why? Ideal clients take less persuasion to get through the door because they are looking for what you are offering. They are easier to retain because your salon is the solution to their challenges and those of their friends, making the attraction of new ideal clients an organic process. But who is the ideal client for your salon or spa?
Before we can know our ideal client we must know who we are. You do this by creating a vision and mission statement. Something that states your intention of service and the commitment your company is making to the client experience. When you define your vision and mission you can then tailor everything from the service you offer, to the logo on your door, to the color of your walls and to the people you hire to say; this is who we are and this is what we want to be known for.

Now you are ready to determine the profile of the client who will see value in you. You can ask yourself such questions as;

  • what is the age of this person
  • what gender are they
  • where do they work
  • where do they play
  • what is their priorities
  • what are their challenges

If the profile of your ideal candidate does not reflect your vision and mission you may not get the results you want from marketing and it can drive down your retention and referral rates. Go back to the exercise and tweak it until you have the complete profile to match your vision and mission. Once complete, all that's left to do is ensure you implement it into the client visit from the moment they call to the time of checkout.

    This is a people issue from beginning to end. And to the people you hire you must transmit the profile of the people you are trying to serve. This is how they will know how to transmit that message to your clients and potential clients.
    Defining and refining the profile is, as you rightly say, the first step. Transmitting and then broadcasting it accurately is the vital ongoing process that will grow your business.
